France, Norway Confer on Hormuz Security, US–Iran Ceasefire

(MENAFN) France and Norway have held talks focused on security in the Strait of Hormuz and the implementation of the US–Iran ceasefire framework, according to a joint statement released on Monday.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide agreed on the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway, stressing that it should be upheld in line with international maritime law.

The two officials reiterated the need to restore unhindered maritime movement in the Strait of Hormuz, referencing obligations under the Law of the Sea.

They also emphasized the importance of fully carrying out the US–Iran ceasefire arrangements, including exploring ways to broaden their scope to include Lebanon as part of wider regional stabilization efforts.

Both sides underlined that maritime security remains a central concern amid ongoing tensions affecting key global shipping routes.

The discussions formed part of continued cooperation between France and Norway on regional stability, with both countries reviewing broader bilateral ties, including defense collaboration, green industry initiatives, and space-related projects.

France also reaffirmed its support for close coordination between the European Union and Norway.

On broader geopolitical matters, both ministers reiterated their backing for Ukraine, describing the situation as a result of what they referred to as Russia’s war of aggression.
